GTI Precast Segmental Duct Couplers
GTI has perfected a State-of-the-Art coupler to provide continuity of post-tensioning ducts across precast segment joints. The GTI Precast Segmental Duct Coupler improves the quality of bridge construction by adapting high performance materials and concepts to the specialized needs of the segmental bridge industry.
The duct coupler maintains the integrity of the tendon across the match-cast joint while allowing easy installation and construction tolerances. The system eliminates the potential for epoxy blockage or grout cross-over.
The GTI Precast Segmental Duct Coupler complies with the requirements of the fib and PTI/ASBI as well as Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) 462 Post-Tensioning Specification, specifically clauses: 462-4.2.7.3 – Internal Duct Systems and 462-4.2.6.2 – O-rings.
The GTI Precast Segmental Duct Coupler has gone through a rigorous testing program to validate that the coupler maintains pressure across the segment joint and the gasket material meets the physical parameters for performance. This provides the highest level of corrosion protection extending the structure’s service life.
During construction alignment mandrels or through-pipes are easily accommodated by the open GTI Load Plug which attaches the coupler to the formwork. Load plugs are available for varying formwork thickness of 1/4 to 3/4 inches (6mm – 18 mm). Locating tubes on the bulkheads are not required. A similar open load plug is used to attach the GTI Match Cast Coupler thus accommodating alignment devices and assuring profile continuity.
The GTI Precast Segmental Duct Coupler provides many advantages to contractors, engineers, and owners.
- Creates an air and water-tight connection at the most vulnerable location in the tendon – the segment joint – providing the best corrosion protection available.
- Maintains the integrity of the post-tensioning tendon duct for grouting purposes – there are no crossovers and epoxy does not leak through the segmental couplers or attachments.
- Accepts angles up to at least 15 degrees in any direction at the segment joint to maintain tendon alignment.
- Allows for misalignment of the segments by up to 1/4 inch (6mm) in any axis to maintain field tolerances.
